EFV: Some Required Reading

by Craig Hooper on May 6, 2010

With the new Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle (EFV)  roll-out and Gate’s mention of the EFV program, I figured it would be a good time to review…

My 2008 Proceedings treatise on the EFV.

Quit gaming the stats.  Use a fully-loaded EFV for testing.

The EFV under-armor evokes Congressional eloquence.

The JHSV was

to

carry 8 EFVs!  Who knew?

As armored amphibians evolve…they like the sea less.

Mulling the anti-ship EFV!

Tanks can fight (and win) at sea!

Tanks can fight (and lose) at sea!

A few places where EFVs might shine.

I like the EFV.  And I’m not getting paid to say that, either.

@USNVO,
“Before we say if they work or not, lets test the production ready prototypes.”

*Which* prototypes? The ones being built now? The hold-overs from the early 2000s? The even earlier EFVs of the late 1990s? The AAAVs of the early 1990s? Or perhaps “the proof-of-concept” vehicles unveiled in 1984?

Slight technicality. It doesn’t work. And it will cost millions upon millions (billions?) to get it to work. In light of competing budgetary demands — both domestic and foreign –IS IT WORTH IT????
